The Brandon Wheat Kings (West) will face-off against the Cantonniers de Magog (QUE) in the Championship game Sunday, April 28th at the TELUS Cup National Championship in Membertou, Nova Scotia.
The Wheat Kings have found their groove at just the right time. Brandon was tentative in the first game of the tournament and lost to Magog Cantonniers 5-1. They then defeated the host, Sydney Rush, 7-4 and the Atlantic rep, Kensington Wild, 2-1. Brandon met Calgary on day 4 of the tournament, with the teams battling in a very physical contest. The Buffaloes edged the Wheat Kings 3-1(en). On the final day of the preliminary round, the Wheat Kings handled the Markham Waxers, with Jaxon Jacobson putting up 1 goal and 3 assists in a 7-4 victory. In the semi-finals the Wheat Kings played a complete team game, Turko had a hat-trick, and Hood stood tall, as Brandon defeated the Calgary 4-1.
Magog is undefeated in the tournament. On Monday, they beat the Wheat Kings 5-1, followed by Markham 6-1, Sydney 9-5, Kensington 3-2, and Calgary 4-0. In the semi-final the outlasted Markham 7-3.
